Statement on Staff Operations and Directly Affected Employees at the University

The events of the last 24 hours will likely have profound effect on most of us for some time to come. As the University returns to a routine activity level I want to reinforce our commitment to our valued University staff.

Some of our staff may still need to have greater than normal flexibility in scheduling and time off. Some may have spouses who are still active in their military service or may be engaged in providing healthcare to the injured in the NYC area. Others may be required to be engaged in the tragic task of dealing with the loss of a loved one. Whatever the circumstances, we ask supervisors to provide the highest level of care in dealing with their staff. We ask them to remain as flexible as operations will permit, wherever possible. Staff may have access to paid leave time, may need time off without pay or simply need to be more flexible with hours of work. In some cases the Emergency Day policy may need to be implemented.

Any employees requiring the services of the University's Employee Assistance Program are welcome to call that office at x5-4987.

We ask that supervisors use good judgment and discretion to make these decisions on a local basis, as each situation and department will encounter unique circumstances.
