Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance

With the launch of the new homepage color scheme in December 2005, the University homepage now includes the first phase of a feature designed to improve Web accessibility for people with disabilities. UsableNet's LIFT Text Transcoder generates text-only versions of Web pages automatically and is available to all Web sites in any authorized University domain. The technology allows users with visual impairments to access the same Web content as other users, with no extra site maintenance work for department webmasters. All sites in the University templates now include a "Text" button as the first link in the top menu. For more information about LIFT Text Transcoder, visit the University's Web Manual.

In designing the University's homepage, we've tried hard to ensure that the site is usable and available to the largest number of people. The site has been tested in popular screen reader software, the color choices have been carefully considered, and our style sheet allows the user to adjust the font sizes on the navigation pages. We've also used tools like Cynthia Says Accessibility Report to ensure that are pages are in compliance with U.S. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

If you discover aspects of the site that may cause an accessibility problem, please contact us. University Web authors should also try to ensure that their sites are accessible. Visit the University Web Manual for more information or contact the University ADA Coordinator if you have any questions.
