University of Rochester Official Seal
The new logo is the primary graphic symbol for identifying
the University of Rochester. The shield for the new logo was
derived from the University official seal and embellished.
The University official seal is not the logo. It is the official seal of
the corporation and by its nature does not possess the qualities of
an effective logo. The seal should never take the place of the shield
in the new logo or take the place of the new logo in its entirety.
The seal and the new logo should not be used together. The shield
within the seal should not be removed to be used as a graphic
element. If an application calls for a shield without the University
of Rochester wordmark, the shield from the new logo should be
used. Although it will have limited and restricted use, the seal will
continue to be used for events and materials of a ceremonial
nature or official activity by the President or Board of Trustees.
Examples of appropriate usage of the University seal include; diplomas,
awards, legal documents and materials associated with the University
President or Board of Trustees.
