Activities Related to Intellectual Property and Scholarly Communication
• Scholarly communication
Provost Emeritus Phelps has had a long-standing interest in issues of scholarly
communication, beginning first at a conference
held at Caltech in 1997, which led to a discussion of alternative ways
to organize scholarly communication in a digital age. A subsequent discussion
of these issues at a conference
of the Association of Research Libraries (the ARL) expanded on these
ideas. Phelps also participated in a conference sponsored by the Association
of American Universities and the ARL known generally as the Tempe
Accord.
• Intellectual property issues
Provost Emeritus Phelps has been active in issues relating in various ways
to intellectual property, including the following:
• Copyright Issues in Digital Media
• Database Legislation
• Patent Reform Legislation
• Peer to Peer File Sharing
Provost Emeritus Phelps has been active nationally in issues of Peer to
Peer (P2P) file sharing on collegiate campuses. For more information on this
