Meeting of the Minds V.....
"Back to the 70's"
...can ya dig it??

Meeting of the Minds V attendee’s donned their afros, broke out their platform shoes and John Travolta suits, and shook their “groove thangs” to famous hits from the 70’s.  The man, Glen “Don Cornelius” Sicard hosted this “Hippest Trip in Town, which included a BOOGIE BUS provided by 1st Transit.  When all the 70’s passengers boarded the BOOGIE bus, they were greeted by tunes that took them back to the 70’s so they could groove from pick up to drop off.  These cool cats from Parking and Transportation Land dressed in attire from the 70’s, enjoyed hours of eating, grooving and going down the “Soul Train Line” while networking with colleagues from across the country.

Richard Pifer, Associate VP for University Facilities and Services Director for IPI opened MOMV with “Master Planning”, TDM at Harvard then took the stage with John Nolan, MS, CAPPScott Conroy, VP of 1st Transit presented on “Becoming Greener with Transit” and Richard Easley, President of E-Squared Engineering told us how the “IPI Technology Committee is working for you”.

Vanessa Cummings, CAPP from University Miami-Ohio came back to MOM a second time and this time hosted “Know Your Teammates: How to Really Get the Job Done”.  She presented three 1-hour sessions over the course of the two days, reaching over 100 University Parking and Transportation staff.  On Friday, Johnna Frosini, Parking Services Administrator from The College at Brockport, teamed up with Glen Sicard, Director of University Parking and Transportation at the University of Rochester to discuss “A Tale of Two Campuses:  Best Practices in Customer Service Shared”.  Aileen McGuire-Meyer, PE, AICP, Traffic Engineer and Transportation Planner for C & S Companies enlightened the audience with “Transportation Surveys: Get to Know Your Customer”.  All the way from Tim Haahs Associates in Miami, Roamy Valera, VP explained “A Parking Challenge: Effective Planning to Achieve the Right Balance” and Mitch Skyer, President of Solstice Transportation Consulting, chimed in with “Transportation Technology”,  followed byDavid Leib, from Cornell University.

On Thursday, University of Rochester’s very own, Dana Perrin (Manager of Technical Systems), presented on CTTED- Crime Prevention through Environmental Design and Lighting, and on Friday, Scott Comegys and Patrick McQuoid (Parking Field Managers) presented on “The Politics of Parking: A Debate” .

Each Meeting of the Minds V speaker had the audience engaged in their presentations, which were relative topics and issues affecting the Parking and Transportation industry today.  Parking is no longer parking; most Universities and Colleges are “mini-cities” and transportation is the way to resolve the “parking crunch” that faces these mini-cities on a daily basis. It is for this reason that we continue to have Meeting of the Minds annually.  Each year, Meeting of the Minds brings experts from their respective Parking and Transportation fields to present and network. This allows Parking and Transportation colleagues from around the state who don’t get a chance to attend the larger annual conferences, to experience and obtain the same wealth of information that is found at the larger conferences.

Back by popular demand, for the third year in a row, Richard “Glen Sicard” Dawson, hosted Parking Family Feud III.  Parking teams also faced off at the “Back to the 70’s Party” for Best Dressed 70’s attire, followed by an outing at Rochester’s neighborhood gathering place, “The Distillery”, taste-testing the famous “best wings” in town. The next day it was dinner at “Michaelina’s known for their Italian cuisine followed by ice cream sundeas at “Abbotts Frozen Custard”.  The 3-day workshop concluded on Saturday with a Golf Tournament and all-you-can-eat-buffet.  Great food, great friends and great memories of the 70’s were the agenda for this event!

Thank you to all our Sponsors and Vendors:  IPI, NYSPA, College at Brockport, TransCore, RL Systems, O’Connell Electric, Solstice Transportation Consulting, Mid–city Signs, Postler & Jaeckle, AISC, Advantage Federal Credit Union, DDS Construction, First Transit, KBH Construction, Villager Construction, Lechase and UR Facilities and Services
