IMSC Director Cyrus Shahabi gave a speech at National University of Singapore (NUS)’s Workshop on Big Data Analysis on February 20th. The workshop was consisted of various topics in Big Data Analysis, from challenges we may face in using Big Data to specific algorithm design used for map-reduce.


Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), an international learning society for computer covered USC digital conference GLIMPSE, which was held on Jan. 29, and IMSC’s participation to the conference. It introduced overview of geo-crowdsourcing project of IMSC and its launch of a company ClearPath.

IMSC director Cyrus Shahabi attended USC event ‘GLIMPSE: A Digital Showcase’ on January 29th and presented IMSC’s traffic information app based on big data. Digital leaders of various schools in USC participated this event, including School of Cinematic Arts Dean Elizabeth M. Daley, ICT associate director Paul Debevec and Annenberg Innovation Lab director Jonathan Taplin, and it attracted many local media such as Los Angeles Times and Associate Press.

IMSC participated in news coverage of 2013 US presidential Inauguration with the college reporting team sponsored by PBS NewsHour. PBS selected and sponsored 15 students in college journalism to cover the 2013 inauguration.

USC Symposium on Digital Media

IMSC Director Cyrus Shahabi participated in the USC Symposium on Digital Media: Research, Education and Innovation. The symposium was aimed at discussing USC’s strategy to build leadership in digital media, where technology, content, policy and business meet. More than 80 researchers in digital media attended this event.

Cyrus attended CUBIC in Hong Kong

IMSC director Cyrus Shahabi attended CUBIC (CityU Business & Industrial Club) on December 17th. CityU is a university in Hong Kong, founded in 1984. CUBIC was established to build close links between the local business and industrial communities and serves to develop close working relationship between the academia and industry.

 

IMSC director Cyrus Shahabi offered a remote course to two universities in Vietnam: University of Information and Technology (UIT) and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) in Fall 2012, sponsored by Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF). The course title was ‘Geospatial Information Management’, and it was offered simultaneously to USC students.
