Meliora Weekend 2009 was a great success!
More than 5,900 alumni, parents, students, and friends attended the festivities.
- Signature programs for the weekend included:
- Keynote Address by Dr. Steven Chu ’70 , ’98 (ScD) The dedication of the Edmund A. Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The ceremonies included a symposium featuring keynote addresses by Charles M. Vest, president of the National Academy of Engineering, and Henry Petroski, the Arthur S. Vesic Professor of Civil Engineering and Professor of History, Duke University
- Dedication of a statue to honor the University’s greatest benefactor, George Eastman, on the Eastman Quadrangle
- Presidential Perspectives on the University of Rochester Today—President Joel Seligman provided an update on the University today and the future roles it will play in education, research, discovery, and the Rochester community
- An Evening With Bill Maher, star of HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher
- The Presidential Symposium on Great Issues of the 21st Century: The Future of Financial Regulation, hosted by Trustee Hugo Sonnenschein '61
- An exclusive event for members of the George Eastman Circle—An Evening With Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference and Outliers: The Story of Success
