The University of Rochester women’s swimming and diving team completed day one of the double dual meet with NYU and Case Western Reserve University with a strong showing in both the singles and team competition.
The women’s 200 yard medley relay team of Val Atwood, Jennifer Chung, Stephanie Bolin, and Emily Scott finished first out eight teams with a time of 1:53.08. Scott ran the final leg of the relay in 24.79, the fastest of the day. The second Yellowjacket relay team, consisting of Shannon Moss, Bridget Festa, Megan Lawless, and Dayna Jacob, finished fourth in the same race.
Rochester also finished first in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Atwood, Cailee Caldwell, Jacob, and Scott finished in 1:41.47, less than half a second ahead of Case.
Individually, Corinne Lampe finished third in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:53.56. Two Rochester divers, Cheryl Blechman and Sara Spielman, finished second and third, respectively, in the three meter dive.
After day one (five events), the University of Rochester leads Case Western Reserve 85-35 but trails NYU 52-72. The second and final day of competition is Saturday.
