The Rochester Curriculum

Students learn best when they have the freedom to study what they love.

That simple idea underlies our unique Rochester Curriculum, which imposes minimal requirements. All students complete the Primary Writing requirement and a major of their choice in one of the three great divisions of learning—humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences and engineering. To complete their foundational study in each of the two areas outside their major, most students complete a cluster—three or more related courses—of their own choice.

Students take advantage of the tremendous flexibility the curriculum permits to complete an education that reflects their interests and passions. Many students pursue second majors or minors, often to study fields in more depth than clusters permit.
