Meere Murthi, Ph.D.

Meera Murthi received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Mumbai, and her doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She completed her clinical internship at the University of Notre Dame (UND) and taught at UND and at St Mary’s college as an adjunct faculty.

Her counseling interests are geared towards understanding diversity and multicultural issues in the local and transnational contexts. She is also interested in work that relates to international student adjustment, biculturalism, oppression, eating disorders, grief and loss issues, and relaxation and mindfulness. Her research and writing focuses on understanding violence and trauma issues, including child sexual abuse, sexual harassment and sexual assault. Her recent work focuses on examining rape in inter-ethnic conflict in the South-Asian context. She is also interested in consultation and outreach initiatives and has been involved in several community based initiatives within university contexts in the US, and in community based programs developed for addressing women's issues including commercial sex work, and violence in India.
