2009 Elections for Faculty Senate and University Committee on Tenure and Privileges. The Faculty Senate Elections committee is inviting nominations for candidates for the University of Rochester Faculty Senate and for the University Committee on Tenure and Privileges (UCTP). Elections are scheduled to take place this Spring. At stake are 15 (out of 45) seats in the Faculty Senate, and one seat on the UCTP for each of the College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering, the Eastman School of Music and the School of Medicine and Dentistry. The electorate for Senate elections consists of all full-time members of the Faculty (Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors) and of part-time members of the Faculty of rank Professor or Associate Professor or equivalent. Eligible for election to the Senate are full-time members of the electorate for Senate elections. Eligible for election to the UCTP are full-time members of the Faculty with unlimited tenure. Senators and UCTP members ordinarily serve three-year terms, starting on July 1. Each year, one-third of the Senate seats are up for election. Senators who have served two consecutive three-year terms are ineligible for election in the year in which they complete their second term. Faculty Senate elections are “at large” elections: any member of the faculty can nominate any faculty member and vote for any candidate, regardless of their respective schools. The UCTP has nine members: two from the College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering, two from the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and one each from the Eastman School of Music, the School of Nursing, the Simon School of Business and the Warner School of Education. The ninth member is appointed by the Faculty Senate Executive Committee. Members ordinarily serve three year terms, and there are no term limits. Each year, two or three seats are up for election, and this year the schools with elections are the College, Eastman, and SMD. UCTP elections are “district based”: you can only nominate candidates from your own school for your own school’s available seat, and you can only vote in the election for your school’s seat on the UCTP. Nominations are due by April 7, 2009.
