The Intensive English Program at the University of Rochester offers quality language instruction to international students and professionals who want to improve their English skills. While many of our students are preparing for university study in the United States or in their home country, we also welcome non-university students who wish to improve their English and learn more about American culture. Students are generally 18 years of age or older, but we also accommodate high school students who obtain prior approval. Classes are offered at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, and are also divided by students' goals, whether they are focused on further education or using English in a professional or work setting.
A highly qualified faculty with advanced degrees and many years of teaching experience both in the United States and abroad.
Small class sizes allowing for individualized attention.
Full access to the rich resources of a private university:
Weekly field trips, both required and optional, to local sites such as Niagara Falls, New York's wine country, museums, state parks, and much more, giving students an opportunity to practice their English in a variety of settings.
Organized evening activities provide opportunities for dining out, going to the cinema or theater, or playing recreational sports.
A beautiful campus that creates a stimulating setting for study and enrichment.
Students spend the day (9 a.m. - 12 noon and 1 - 3 p.m.) in one of two core courses (CAS 089 or CAS 090) with other students at their same level of study (beginning, intermediate, or advanced).
