How to Access CCAS Services

Academic Services Counter

Questions of an everyday nature that are not specific to you are appropriately addressed to the staff member at the Counter in the lobby. For example: "When is the deadline to drop a course?" "Who should I see to declare my major in Psychology?"

Hours:
9 to 5 including the hour from 12 to 1, Monday through Friday.
How do I get this service?
Just walk up to the Counter.
How long will I have to wait?
Except for rush times when it seems as if everyone is there, there is virtually no waiting.
How long is the interaction?
Usually a minute or two, more or less.
Who do I see?
Normally, advisers staff the Counter. You might also see one of our specially-trained Counter staff members, or a member of the Registrar's Office staff.

E-Mail Advising

If you have questions of a general nature that don't require a personal conversation, send an e-mail message. The same sorts of questions that are appropriate for the Academic Services Counter are fine for e-mail.

any time of the day or night.
How do I get this service?
Address your request to cascas@mail.rochester.edu.
How long will I have to wait?
Normally, responses are sent within a day.
Who will respond?
An experienced adviser.

Academic Records Counter

Questions that are specific to your College file may be asked of staff at the Records Counter. (Ask first at the Services Counter in the lobby; you'll be directed to the Records Counter if that is appropriate.) For instance: "Has my grade for last semester's course in xxx been submitted?" "Has my transcript from xxx college arrived?"

Hours:
9 to 12, 1 to 5, Monday through Friday.
How do I get this service?
Come to the Records Counter at the back of the Center for Academic Support.
How long will I have to wait?
Usually no time at all.
How long is the interaction?
Just long enough to answer your question.
Who do I see?
One of our specially-trained Records staff members.

10-Minute Walk-in Meeting

Questions that are specific to you and that are likely to be resolved quickly may be addressed to an adviser in Lattimore 312 during these walk-in hours. (You may want to check at the Counter in the lobby to see if you can be helped there before waiting for a walk-in meeting.) For example: "I would like a tutor for xxx." "Which of these courses from xxx University transfer to my record here?"

Hours:
10 to 12, Monday through Friday. Sign-up by 11:30 is necessary! 1 to 4, Monday through Friday. Sign-up by 3:30 is necessary!
How do I get this service?
Give your name to the receptionist in Lattimore 312.
How long will I have to wait?
At busy times of the year you may wait for half an hour. At other times, five minutes is more the rule.
How long is the interaction?
Five to ten minutes with the adviser.
Who do I see?
You will see the next available adviser, unless you have requested to see a specific adviser.

Appointment

Concerns that are more far-reaching are best addressed during a 30-minute appointment. For instance: "How can I arrange a schedule of courses that will lead me somewhere?" "I want to change my intended major; how can I begin planning?" "I'm having a lot of difficulty with one of my courses. What are my options?"

Hours:
9 to 12, 1 to 5, Monday through Friday.
How do I get this service?
Ask for an appointment at the Counter in the lobby outside Lattimore 312 or, for study abroad, individualized majors, or Senior Scholars, go to Lattimore 206.
How long will I have to wait?
Anywhere from one day to a week or two, depending on the time of year and the flexibility of the situation.
How long is the interaction?
Up to 30 minutes with the adviser.
Who do I see?
For general advising situations, you may see any of the professional staff advisers or the adviser of your choice. Freshmen and sophomores may make arrangements to see their class deans. For specialized advising (such as Health and Society or Fellowships) you will be given an appointment with the proper adviser.
