Quest Courses

These courses are designed primarily for freshmen, and are shaped by the practices of faculty learning. They embody a research-based pedagogy, and exemplify research as a way of learning. Quest courses are usually small (normally 15 to 25 students), exploratory, and research-oriented. They emphasize conversation and collaboration, and feature the perspective of a second look. Quest courses can be library-, data-, or laboratory-intensive, and emphasize the skills that benefit the process of investigation. Qualified freshmen may register for Quest courses at Orientation. Upperclassmen may register for Quest courses where space permits and with instructor approval after freshmen have registered. Quest courses carry the suffix "Q" after the course number (e.g., MTH 171Q).
